What is the LM4D RIS PTR?
The LM4D RIS PTR is the 14.5-inch, quad-rail member of KWA’s LM4D gas rifle family. It keeps the classic layout, with a fixed front sight post, a collapsible stock and a 6.63-inch Picatinny RIS, and adds the tool-less hop-up developed for the LM4D to improve range on the field.
An aluminum alloy receiver houses a steel-reinforced bolt carrier for strong, reliable feedback. The forward assist and bolt catch both work, the buffer tube takes mil-spec stocks, and the lower receiver accepts aftermarket AR-15 pistol grips and trigger guards, so you can set it up the way you train.

How the LM4D RIS PTR works
Gas blowback rifles reward a little know-how. Here is what to expect.
Gas blowback, explained
Green gas is stored in the magazine. Each trigger pull releases gas that fires the BB and drives the bolt back, which gives you bolt movement and recoil you can feel.
Because the gas lives in the magazine, healthy magazines mean a healthy rifle. Keep their seals oiled and fill them correctly.
Filling an LM4 magazine
Inspect the magazine first. If gas is still inside, release it with the valve at the top rear, and keep clear of the escaping gas.
- Hold the magazine upside down (floor plate up) and the green gas can upside down and vertical, with the fill needle pointing down.
- Fill for about 30–40 seconds. Listen for a faint hiss while it fills.
- Prime the magazine now and then by pressing the release valve as you first insert the fill needle. This reduces air pockets.
- Magazines get cold after shooting. A pouch or pocket helps them return to room temperature.
Which magazines to use
It comes with one LM4D AGM 40-round magazine, which has a working dry-fire function for training. KWA also pairs this rifle with the LM4 PTR Series 40-round magazine.
The 8 lb trigger
The trigger breaks at about 8 lb, a pull weight that makes the LM4D RIS PTR a strong choice for training trigger control.
How many shots per can?
KWA ran its own test at 78°F to see how many rounds one can of KWA green gas gives a gas rifle. Each magazine was filled for 30 seconds and loaded with 40 BBs, then emptied and refilled without warming time until the can could no longer give a 30-second fill.
Results: 920 rounds from an LM4C gas rifle running four LM4 magazines, and 840 rounds from an AKG KCR running five AKG magazines. Treat it as a guide. Temperature and fill time change the count.
Hop-up, explained
Hop-up puts backspin on the BB so it lifts and flies flatter and farther. Too little and BBs drop early. Too much and they climb.
- Start with the hop-up at its lowest setting.
- Fire a few shots at a target at your usual distance.
- Add a little hop at a time until BBs fly flat before they drop.
- Back it off if BBs start to rise. Re-check whenever you change BB weight.

LM4D RIS PTR care and parts
- Inspect magazines before each use. Make sure feed lips are intact and free of cracks.
- Put a drop of silicone oil on the top of the magazine main seal, just behind the feed lips. It helps the magazine seal against the bolt carrier.
- Do not shake the gas can before filling, and avoid dropping magazines.
- Store green gas magazines in a cool, dry place and never in direct sunlight.
- Replace worn seals and O-rings as needed.
