What is the Ronin X-18?
KWA introduced the AEG 2.5 with the Variable Performance System in early 2017. VPS lets you fine-tune FPS with the included tool, without taking the gearbox or rifle apart, so one rifle can be set for an indoor arena or an outdoor field.
The AEG 2.5 also has a mechanical and electrical cut-off that stops the rifle on an empty magazine. Reload, hit the bolt catch and keep going. The Ronin X-18 pairs it with a 18.5 in barrel and a full-length KeyMod rail.
- AEG 2.5 gearbox with Variable Performance System, VPS tool included

What comes with the Ronin X-18
How the Ronin X-18 works
Adjusting FPS with VPS
The Variable Performance System changes power at the gearbox. On the Ronin X-18 you adjust it with the included VPS tool, within 400–450 FPS.
Fields set velocity limits, often lower indoors than outdoors. Set the rifle for the field you are playing and confirm it at chrono.
How the cut-off works
When the magazine runs empty, the cut-off gearbox stops the rifle from firing. Insert a fresh magazine, disengage the mock bolt catch and keep going.
It builds reload muscle memory for training and games.
Which magazines to use
Standard M4 AEG magazines fit. To use the cut-off, run KWA’s cut-off magazines: the K120c or MS120c. One K120c is included and switches between 30 and 120 rounds.
Choosing a battery
The battery and charger are not included. This rifle takes Li-Po/Li-Fe batteries with a Deans (T-plug) connector, wired to the rear.
Match the connector, check that the battery fits the stock or battery space, and charge it only with a charger made for that battery type. Ask KWA if you are not sure which size fits.
Hop-up, explained
Hop-up puts backspin on the BB so it lifts and flies flatter and farther. Too little and BBs drop early. Too much and they climb.
- Start with the hop-up at its lowest setting.
- Fire a few shots at a target at your usual distance.
- Add a little hop at a time until BBs fly flat before they drop.
- Back it off if BBs start to rise. Re-check whenever you change BB weight.
Ronin X-15 vs X-18
Both use the AEG 2.5 gearbox with VPS and an empty-magazine cut-off, a 15.25-inch KeyMod rail and a KWA Crane stock.
Ronin X-18 care and parts
- Disconnect the battery whenever you are not using the rifle.
- Charge with a charger made for your battery type (NiMH or Li-Po/Li-Fe).
- Keep the inner barrel and hop-up bucking clean if accuracy drops.
- Wipe the rifle down after each game and check screws and the rail before you play.
